Food waste composting for schools

All raw and cooked food waste produced by your school, nursery or college can be effectively composted using the Ridan food waste composting system, including fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, fish and dairy products.

Composting is a natural process, but the conditions have to be just right for the process to take place. The Ridan Composting system ensures the conditions are just right. During this natural process, energy is released which heats the mixture and creates steam, much to the amusement of children and some adults too!

The final product is a healthy, nutrient rich, live, compost which can be fed back into your plant pots, borders and gardens or used for community projects. You can never have too much compost!

Schoolchildren with Ridan Composting Machine

‘The Ridan composter is so easy to use and incredibly effective. It’s amazing how quickly it heats up, and the end product is perfect for our school grounds.

The Ridan composter reduces the amount of waste going into general waste not just food waste but also recyclables, as we become more conscious of managing waste better, I have found the system very easy to use and am still amazed at how quickly the composter heats up and how easy it is to keep at the working temperature.

People who look at the product coming out of the composter are surprised at how different that product is with no sign of food coming out. Using wood pellets really helps to combat smells or flies, so these are not a problem. I have added worms to the maturation bins to help build up the worm populations in the compost. The time taken to deal with the food waste at the end of the day is not onerous. The students and staff have quickly gotten used to putting plate scrapings into food waste bins ready for me to pick up.
