Dawn to dusk football marathon

James Blyth, event organiser, Cripps' law firm for the Hospice in the Weald, Kent:

Dawn to dusk football marathon 'We initially wanted to organise a straightforward tournament but realised that our firm's highest fundraisers historically have all involved an endurance element! We thought that playing football from dawn until dusk had the necessary 'crazy' factor to get everyone interested. We first made sure we could get cheap use of a pitch. We then secured enough players - we ended up with a squad of 17, with each player playing an average of nine games. We approached local firms, clients and other teams to see if they could play against us for a 45-minute slot. Each player from Cripps raised sponsorship money and each team that played us made a contribution. We raised more money by having a BBQ and cake sale on the day. We set up a JustGiving page ( and circulated links to friends and family - we raised £2,542.'
