Teddy bears' picnic

Fiona Phillips, Volunteer, Development Trust, Scotland

'We ran a 'Teddy Bears' Picnic' to raise money for our local branch of the Development Trust. We charged £1 entry for adults, and nothing for children with a teddy bear! We advertised the event all over the area with flyers and posters, and a leaflet drop. The Development Trust publicised it in their newsletter, and we put it in the local press, on local radio, in National Park magazine, on our website, Facebook, Gumtree, and Netmums!

Lots of families attended and were able to sit and relax while the children played the various party games that we put on. We ran a raffle and a BBQ - a local business donated burgers, rolls and hot dogs. It was a daytime event, held in the play park we were revamping, and we mounted a display in a marquee outlining what we wanted to achieve. We raised around £300, but more importantly got lots of support and publicity in the local press.'
