National Book Tokens

National Book Tokens, sponsors of World Book Day, are the only gift cards accepted in bookshops everywhere.

National Book Tokens have inspired booklovers for more than 90 years, empowering readers to choose just the right books for them.

As sponsors of World Book Day, and supporters of Read for Good, National Book Tokens share both charities mission of supporting and celebrating reading for pleasure.

Hundreds of schools across the country use National Book Tokens to reward, motivate and inspire children throughout the year and at end-of-term prize-giving.

National Book Tokens gift cards are accepted in hundreds of bookshops across the UK and Ireland, and online. Available to purchase in bookshops, supermarkets, or online – including personalised and e-Gift cards, and Bookily – there are designs for booklovers of all ages and for all occasions.

National Book Tokens gift cards are produced on FSC-certified card, have an expiry of 8 years from last use, and expired cards can be replaced.

We find that tokens are more of an incentive than a book itself as pupils love the option of choosing what they can have. They can choose a picture book, fiction, non-fiction or may find a new author they have never discovered before. It promotes reading for pleasure in a fun way – you just cant beat going into a book shop with a voucher knowing the world is your oyster. – Primary School, Midlands

School librarians and heads of year often also use National Book Tokens as prizes – for reading challenges, creative writing competitions, end of year rewards for pupils. National Book Tokens are always a prize that will encourage young people to participate and get excited about many initiatives and projects. – Secondary School, Scotland

I love giving book tokens as it is giving an experience – of going to browse in a bookshop – as well as the books purchased. I think this is especially important for children to experience and I think it means independent retailers are more likely to be visited rather than the impersonal experience of ordering on Amazon! – Secondary teacher, Midlands
